Cawsand (Cornish: Porthbugh) and Kingsand are twin villages in southeast Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. They are joined together and appear as one village. You can walk from the center of one to the other in about 5 minutes without knowing they are 2 villages. The village is situated on the Rame Peninsula and is in the parish of Maker-with-Rame.
Cawsand overlooks Plymouth Sound and adjoins Kingsand, formerly on the border of Devon and Cornwall (the border has since been moved and now is situated on the River Tamar). Once a renowned smuggling village, Cawsand now has pubs and shops as well as a beach and water sports.
Cawsand is within Mount Edgcumbe Country Park. There are frequent bus services to the city of Plymouth which is three miles to the north across Plymouth Sound. There is also a ferry service in the summer (from Cawsand beach to Plymouth Hoe).
Cawsand has a main square with shop/cafe and a pub. Direct access from the square goes down onto Cawsand beach where there are various water sports to take part in
Sailing, Canoeing, paddle boarding as well as lots of sea swimming even in the winter!
Cawsand is a quiet and traditional Cornish village, somewhere you can come to get away from everything. There is a shop on the square where you can get great pasties as well as Ice Creams or fish and chips, plus all your usual groceries. The Cross Keys Inn is a popular pub on the square.
On the old county boundary between the two villages there is still a house called Devon Corn, which has the marker on the front of the house. The villages are popular with tourists but retain their traditional character.
Howton Cottage is located on Garrett street which runs between Cawsand and Kingsand so you have direct access to both.
Kingsand has exactly the same feel as Cawsand and here you can find several pubs, gift shops, grocery shops, as well as a post office and Ice Cream parlour
There are 2 beaches here to choose from and also the Cleave which is a road running along the seafront where you can enjoy a drink or two looking out to sea.
You are spoilt for choice with 3 separate beaches to choose from all within Cawsand & Kingsand.
You also have many other larger beaches to choose from within 10-15 minutes drive
Kingsand Beaches are smaller and allow you sit back and enjoy the stunning views out to sea, one beach is overlooked by the Devonport Inn where you can get a drink ot bite to eat without leaving the view.
The Cawsand beach has lots of water sports and you will see lots of people out there on stand up paddle boards and kayaks, which can both be hired from the beach.
Also lots of opportunity for Sailing as well from the Cawsand Beach
In Cawsand and Kingsand there are a selection of great local pubs and restaurants to meet all your needs, or make use of the beautiful kitchen in the cottage if you would prefer to prepare your own meals.
